Macau’s Elegant Racing Team returns for a second season of TCR Asia, with entries for 2017 podium finisher Alex Liu, and part-timer Kelvin Wong who takes the wheel of the second entry from outgoing Zhuhai winner Eric Kwong.
Campaigning two Seat Leon TCR SEQ V2 entries in the teams stunning white, blue and gold livery, they will be on the grid at Sepang on April 1 looking to build on their strong late season form last year which saw them on the Zhejiang podium during the season finale.
Liu - a long-time campaigner - finished a season high second at Zhuhai last May behind team-mate Eric Kwong, on his way to a top five finish in the TCR Asia Cup. He also delivered an impressive result for the team on the streets of Bangsaen during the Series’ maiden visit to the popular Thai event, using his many years of experience from the Macau Grand Prix to great effect.
The May Zhuhai event - a race which was right on the team’s doorstep - delivered their best result of the 2017 season with a stunning 1-2 finish, set up by some brilliant team strategy that saw the Macanese team play the weather conditions perfectly.
For Liu’s 2018 team-mate Kelvin Wong, he will make a return to TCR Asia after his cameo at Shanghai last season, a race where with little preparation time, the experience Macanese driver was able to claim the TCR Cup victory on debut, before backing up with a third placed finish in the second 30-minute race in a field that saw the combined fields of TCR Asia and TCR China going head-to-head at the home of the Chinese Grand Prix.
The 2018 TCR Asia Series - the fourth season of the TCR regional championship - gets underway in Malaysia on March 28 with pre-season testing ahead of the first two rounds of the year on April 1. The series then returns to Buriram in Thailand in early June for the first time since 2016, before a return to the popular Bangsaen beach circuit in mid July. The championship will then head to Korea for the first time since the opening event of the 2016 season, before wrapping up at Shanghai in early October ahead of the 888-kilometre invitational the same weekend.
